Overview & Reviews
The Grand Prix gets more muscle for '99 with low-restriction air-induction components giving the naturally aspirated 3.8-liter V6 five more horsepower, to 200. This engine is standard on the GT (sedan and coupe) and optional on the SE sedan. A traction control indicator and on/off button are now standard on GTP models. Minor revisions are in order inside, with front-door courtesy lamps and a six-speaker sound system now standard, and an eight-speaker Bose audio unit and OnStar mobile communications system optional. Outside, a rear deck spoiler is standard on the GT model, and two colors have been added to the 1999 exterior paint chart.
- Strong powertrains, sporty styling, fun to drive.
- Overstyled interior, cheap-looking dashboard plastic.

Cheap thrills - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix
By shmoke - February 17 - 10:00 amI just cant express my disdain for Christians review (Edmunds editor). He obviously has a terrible impression of this car and has obviously been presented with a bad example. Maybe Edmunds was provided with a "testers" example that had been flogged first by more "prestigious publications". I have not seen a Grand Prix that displays bad build quality, materials or design. The fit and finish are of great quality. "Harsh and un-refined"... The Grand Prix does indeed excite the senses. Everything from the sound of the engine, the firm yet supple ride and tactile feel of the controls - are all unique and appealing.

dont buy - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix
By GMSKS - February 6 - 2:00 amThis vehicle has had issues since it was first purchased. Replaced 4 electric motors for the windows in the first two years of having it. Radio went bad just as the warranty expired (Pontiac did go ahead and replace though). Now engine acting up and dealership cannot determine problem. Next time, buy Japanese.

losing confidence - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix
By loams - December 2 - 2:00 amI bought new and now have 52000 miles. The car is well cared for but have already replaced an alloy wheel, two blower motors, one blower resistor, tensioner bracket (total of about $1100 to date) ans have an on going problem with the a/c drain causing water to flood the front passenger seat carpeting. I think this will be my last Pontiac.

nothing good, its junk - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix
By shepp69 - November 12 - 2:00 amnothing about this car is any good. this is the worst car I have ever owned. (14 previous) Problem areas: fuel system, interior pieces falling off/apart, exhaust system, body panels separating (plastic to metal), fuel economy, creaking and rattles that have developed, suspension. need I go any further? I could. Too many miles on this car I guess, wasnt built to go any farther than 80,000. Mine has 87,000.

pretty car with frequent problems - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix
By tahayah - July 27 - 10:00 amWhen I first bouhgt my car, I loved it. It was fast, reliable, fun to drive. Within the year that I had it, problems began to occur. I assumed that if I kept up the maintenance that I would have no worries. In chronological order: the motors in 2 windows went out, the fuel sensor had to be replaced, the LCD screen on the radio becomes illegible, the trunk light went out, the door panels are loose, the cup holders only fit one size of cups, sometimes it wont start up and now the transmission is slipping. For a car thats five years old, it sure doesnt hold up like one.

Best Used Car Been Very Reliable - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix
By Ladylynnette - April 24 - 11:53 amthis car is the coupe and has very good suspension with the low track. Has luxury along with takes corners really well. I bought my car with 95,000 miles on it and it still runs like a new car, it now has 112,000 miles on it. I occasionally have something go wrong. I had the air mass flow sensor go out and then replaced and runs great again. It is more sporty luxury than complete sports car. I have really enjoyed it. It is much harder to find the 2 door couple which is much sportier looking.

Grand Prix - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix
By Timmy Lupus - April 10 - 10:00 amThis car is great for the money. I got this when I graduated from college and it did not cost me and arm and a leg. Getting a new car hasnt really crossed my mind. The Grand Prix has been treating me well for the last 3 years. I have made frequent, long-distance, weekend trips with the car. It is comfortable and gets good gas milage. Passengers have noted how big and roomy the back seat is. I really like the hatch in the backseat, that opens up into the trunk. I normally have a ton of sports equipment sitting in the back seat and this makes it really easy to toss into the trunk when I need the backseat for passengers.

Good Old Pontiac! - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix
By prdsubrbndrvr - February 20 - 10:00 pmMy parents are the original owners since new! I drive the Grand Prix whenever I come home because I love it, nice break from my Suburban! The Grand Prix has 114,000 miles on it and still resembles a newer car. The 3.8L engine is undestructable and has never failed us! Just usual oil changes, and minimal problems. My dad will run this car until it can go no longer, which should not be anytime soon.

Ryans GTP - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix
By Ryan - February 3 - 12:43 amAmazing vehicle all around. From the handling to the style, this car is impressive. The response of the supercharger is instant and more than adequate for highway passing. Driving the 4-door sedan still feels like your driving a sport coupe. The powerplant not only outperforms most, but is also easily accessible for the backyard mechanic. Its also nice looking. All around suspension is sporty, so avoid those construction zones. When you hit a bump you feel it. I cut out the resonator and replaced it with 2" pipe. It has a growl to it now that isnt too loud, but sounds great. My 100% thumbs up for this ride.
